This is the 28th consecutive year that Hammond High School Director of Dance, Brooke Kuhl-McClelland, presents the annual Spring Dance Concert with performances from all levels of dance classes from introduction to dance through the more skilled level students on the two Dance Companies. This year’s Dance Concert is titled “ Capture the Essence.”
Large and small group dance pieces performed in Capture the Essence were choreographed by Ms. Kuhl, her mentors or students of the classes. Dance students who are selected to be mentors by Ms. Kuhl assist her with the daily running and instruction of the dance classes and choreograph dances for their assigned classes.
Two pieces “I Put a Spell On You” choreographed by Dance Company captains and “Happy For You” choreographed by Company Captain and Junior Company Mentor, Lindsey Freeman illustrate the dance talent at Hammond High School. Returning to Hammond, two former Hammond Dance alumni, Lauren DeGroat and Sasha Pletnikova together choreographed “Walking Through the Fire” and performed by the Hammond Dance Company.
In addition to Hammond’s skillful dancers, Ms. Kuhl works closely with another Hammond High School standout student, senior Zach Sager, whose lighting designs are dynamic and add to the enjoyment of the Dance Concert by the audience.
The performance opens Thursday evening at the Hammond High School Auditorium. The show begins at 7:00 pm and repeats on Friday and Saturday.
