Sportscaster James “JB” Brown who lives in the Washington, DC metro area, was recently invited to Bridgeway Community Church in Columbia, Maryland, where he shared his admonition to the congregation to “break the huddle and run the play.”
Brown, a professing Christian, seemed right at home at Bridgeway. Part of his message affirmed that each Christian has a purpose and a gift whether big or small. He used football expressions, indicating that after the play is given, players break huddle and execute the play. Some players play a major role, while others are in support positions, but each gift is a significant part of the whole.
Brown told the congregation, “Without God, we are nothing. God will block for you.” He added, “When God gives you a play, you better move out and do what God says within that time.” Sometimes we feel insufficient in our ability to serve God, according to Brown. He said, “Sometimes we are running somebody else’s play.”
