Columbia, MD – Shortly before 7:00 AM this morning, firefighters and paramedics from the Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services were dispatched to a report of a townhouse fire in the 10300 block of College Square in Columbia. Crews arrived on location to find smoke coming from the front of the home. They located a small fire inside and quickly extinguished it.
Two residents were sleeping when the fire started. They were awoken by smoke detectors and were able to evacuate safely. Both residents were displaced until repairs can be made to the home. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No residents or firefighters were injured.
Fire investigators from the HCDFRS Office of the Fire Marshal and are working to determine the origin and cause of the blaze. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
