Assault
Columbia, 21044: 5700 block of Brook Way, May 18 7:35 p.m.
Police responded for a report of a male suspect who was making threats and displaying a handgun. Police located the suspect nearby and arrested him. The gun was determined to be a BB gun; the suspect also was in possession of a pocket knife. No one was injured.

Vehicle theft
Ellicott City, 21043: 3200 block of North Ridge Road, May 19 10:09 p.m.
Police responded to Walmart for a report of a merchandise theft in progress. An officer arrived and observed a suspect with approximately $3,000 of stolen items. After a brief foot pursuit, police took the suspect into custody. He was handcuffed behind his back and belted into the backseat of a patrol SUV. While the officer was collecting evidence from the store, he was able to manipulate the handcuffs from back to front, climb into the driver’s seat and drive off. Police intercepted the vehicle in Baltimore and apprehended the suspect.
ARRESTED: Jerome Rucker, 32, of Haven Court in Nottingham, charged with theft, auto theft, drug possession, resisting arrest, failure to obey a lawful order and escape
