Workforce Development Board Needs Members

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking to fill several vacancies on the Howard County Workforce Development Board. Applicants should be leadership professionals who represent in-demand industries in the county or other workforce partners, including labor organizations, community organizations that support employment, and organizations focused on education and training. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 23, 2024.

“Supporting our workforce prepares us for job growth and ensures that we can adapt to the ever-evolving labor demands of tomorrow,” said Ball. “By gathering these employment leaders and partners for strategic and constructive discussion, we are making sure that we enhance and support quality employment opportunities for future generations and invest in the future strength and health of our economy.”

The Board is comprised of 17 members representing various in-demand industry sectors, such as Technology, Healthcare, Education, Finance, Manufacturing, Retail, Real Estate, Hospitality, Construction and Transportation. Industry applicants must be an owner, chief executive officer, chief operating officer or other individual with optimum policymaking or hiring authority and must provide employment opportunities within Howard County.

In addition to the above, eligible candidates should be available for quarterly Board and other subcommittee meetings as appropriate. The Board meets in-person on the 3rd Friday of each quarter at the Columbia Workforce Center at 7161 Columbia Gateway Drive Columbia MD 21046.

Interested applicants should complete an application online by visiting www.howardcountymd.gov/applybc and selecting “Workforce Development Board” in the form. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for consideration. For any questions regarding the application process, please email ApplyBC@howardcountymd.gov.

The Board’s primary responsibility is to provide guidance, and oversight to the local workforce development system through the Howard County Office of Workforce Development.
