ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a community outreach meeting on Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:00 p.m., at the Anne Arundel County Public Library’s Linthicum Library, to discuss a project to replace the existing Furnace Avenue bridge over Deep Run, that connects Howard County to Anne Arundel County.

Currently in 30 percent design phase, the proposed project will include the replacement of the existing steel beam bridge with a new concrete bridge, as well as the installation of new traffic barriers and improvements to the roadway approach within the project limits. The project is scheduled to begin in fall 2027 and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by fall 2028.

The meeting will include a formal presentation by the project’s design engineering firm, Whitman Requardt and Associates, including a discussion on the proposed detour as the Furnace Avenue bridge will be closed during construction. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. Howard and Anne Arundel County staff will also be on hand to answer any questions and gather public comments. Anne Arundel County is the lead agency managing the project.

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Prasoon Shrestha with DPW at 410-313-1879 or email pshrestha@howardcountymd.gov.

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call DPW at 410-313-3440 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
