Today, President Joe Biden announced his decision to quit his reelection bid for President of the United States. Locally, at least two elected officials have made statements regarding Biden’s decision. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md), both made early statements thanking Biden for the work he accomplished during his term. See statements below:
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball:
“During the last four years, President Joe Biden has served our country with honor, integrity, and a sincere focus on improving the lives of working Americans. As President, he has championed landmark legislation to improve our country, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act. These critical efforts brought millions of federal dollars to Howard County to strengthen our infrastructure, grow jobs and businesses, and tackle the pressing threats of climate change.
As your Howard County Executive, I have valued our close partnership and collaboration with the Biden Administration to move Howard County, Maryland, and our nation forward. Today, as President Biden announces that he will not seek a second term, I want to acknowledge and thank him for his leadership, vision, and tireless efforts to restore the soul of America. Together, we will build on President Biden’s legacy and ensure that our community remains the very best place to live, work, play, grow, and thrive. Thank you, President Biden.”
U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:
