HCPD Investigate Two Unrelated Weekend Roadway Fatalities in Howard County

Howard County police are investigating the death of a motorist after a tree fell on her vehicle in Ellicott City.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, a vehicle was traveling westbound on Baltimore National Pike just past the Baltimore County line when a tree fell on it. The driver and sole occupant, an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second vehicle also was struck by the tree. The driver and sole occupant of that vehicle, an adult female, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Baltimore National Pike was closed for approximately four hours in that area.

In a separate incident police are investigating a fatal collision overnight in Laurel in which one person was killed.

At approximately 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, a 2021 Suzuki GSX-S750 motorcycle was traveling north on Washington Boulevard just past Lynn Buff Court when it struck a truck making a left turn onto southbound Washington Boulevard. The operator and sole occupant of the motorcycle, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the truck were uninjured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Washington Boulevard in the area of the collision was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours.
